Batty about Bats - Wilmslow Carrs

Join South Lancashire Bat Group and Bollin Valley Partnership Ranger Naomi on a majestic bat walk as the sun starts to fade and dusk draws in.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about bats in their natural environment. You will learn the importance of bats and you may even get to see and hear them. Learn how to identify different species of bat using bat detectors.

Booking and payment in advance is essential.

River Bank Management. Conservation In Action One - Twinneys Bridge

This is the first in a series of hands-on conservation tasks, this time helping us to keep our dynamic River Bollin in check, next to key footpaths. Bring a good pair of gardening gloves and loppers if you have them.

We will be using the materials on site to form brash bundles or willow weaving to strengthen the river banks alongside the River Bollin.

Booking in advance is essential. Please bring your own wellies, gloves and waterproofs.

Spring Forage - Rossmill

Join the Bollin Valley rangers on a foraging walk around Rossmill. We will be looking for plants and flowers that can be found easily in the garden or in the countryside and sampling whatever we can.

Ecology Ramble - Wilmslow Carrs

Wilmslow Carrs is a well-loved part of our local countryside. It's also very rich in wildlife. We are lucky enough to have the knowledge and expertise of local John Handley to guide us around the Carrs exploring the different habitats, learning about the areas landscape history, and talking about the future prospects for nature conservation.

Foraging Workshop and Balsam Bash at Macclesfield Riverside Park

Alongside our regular balsam bashing events we are trialling a partnership with Forager Jim, from Forage Box, who will be running a foraging section of the event for a heavily discounted price. All we ask in return is that you help out by pulling up a little balsam.

This workshop is designed to get you as involved as possible - this includes identifying, picking and tasting a range of wild plants that will be found on the day, along with as much Himalayan Balsam removal as you like!

Booking and payment in advance is essential. Suitable for anyone over the age of 6.

Countryside Crafts - Newgate Nature Reserve, Wilmslow

We will be aiming to make a rustic plant support or platter from materials found on the nature reserve depending on what needs pruning! Bring thick gardening gloves and secateurs as we will try weaving what we find which may be prickly!

This is the annual Bioblitz at Macclesfield Riverside Park. Join experts discovering the birds, wildflowers, minibeasts and water life that can be found within the park. Newgate Local Nature reserve is an often-forgotten jewel within our local countryside. Although a relatively new site, it is already rich in wildlife. We are lucky enough to have the knowledge and expertise of local ecologist John Handley to guide us around the nature reserve exploring the different habitats, learning about the areas landscape history including Lindow Common.
