Trans Pennine Trail
Introduction
The Trans Pennine Trail joins the East and West coasts of England via the hills of the Pennines. The route runs from Southport to Hornsea taking in Liverpool and Hull on the way. Spurs run off to Chesterfield, Leeds, Sheffield and York. The total network is 345 miles (555 km) in length.
The Trans Pennine Trail is open to walkers and cyclists with many stretches also being open to horse-riders. This means that it is also suitable in many parts to wheel chair users and people walking with prams.
Lymm Railway Line
We manage the section in Trafford from the River Bollin to Oldfield Brow. This section of the Trail follows the route of the former Warrington to Altrincham railway known as the Lymm Railway.
Part of the European Long Distance Footpath E8
The Trail is also forms the English section of the European Long Distance Footpath E8 – which currently goes from the West coast of Ireland as far as the Polish-Ukranian border. It is hoped that it will eventually go all the way to Istanbul in Turkey.
